Welcome
Back

We're here to support you on your journey back to the gym.

Planet Granite San Francisco Update

With the delta variant taking off, the San Francisco Public Health Department has revised their health order to require proof of vaccination status to enter all gyms. We are continuing to follow the CDC and county mandates and therefore will need to see proof of vaccination only at our San Francisco location when you arrive, starting August 20th.

Please note that Planet Granite is still required to have everyone wear masks at all times while in any of our Bay Area gyms (San Francisco, Belmont, Sunnyvale, and Santa Clara), regardless of vaccination status until the Health Department no longer requires this of gyms.

What is acceptable vaccination proof?

  • The CDC vaccination card, which includes name of person vaccinated, type of vaccine provided, and date last dose administered, or similar documentation issued by a foreign governmental jurisdiction
  • A photo or copy of a vaccination card as a separate document or stored on a phone/electronic device
  • Documentation of vaccination from healthcare provider
  • A personal digital COVID-19 vaccine record issued by the State of California

When does proof of vaccination become a requirement at San Francisco?
It will be required starting on August 20th, but, we will begin accepting proof upon check-in on Tuesday, August 17th to allow you additional time to satisfy this requirement.

Are there any exemptions?
Anyone who is under the age of 12 will not need to show vaccination proof. Anyone under 18 who is participating in any PG youth program (Youth Team, Book A Climb, ASP, Private Instruction) will not need to show vaccination proof. Youth ages 12-18 must provide proof of vaccination if climbing outside of youth programs.

How do I submit proof of vaccination status?
Vaccination proof should be presented at the front desk and will only need to be brought once. Please do not email documentation in advance of any visits.

Do I still need to wear a mask if everyone is vaccinated?
SF County still requires everyone over the age of 2 to wear a mask indoors regardless of vaccination status.

Why are you requiring proof of vaccination?
We are required by the SF County Dept. of Health (SFDPH) to begin this process and once this mandate is no longer required by SFDPH, we will also remove this requirement.

What if I can’t submit proof of vaccination?
Currently, our understanding is SF County DPH are not allowing any exemptions for this mandate. If you are unable to submit proof of vaccination, please look to utilize our other Bay Area Planet Granite locations.

Behind the Scenes

The health and safety of our team members and community is our top priority. Here’s what we’re doing behind the scenes:

  • We are conducting temperature checks and symptom assessments on staff before every shift.
  • We’ve updated our cleaning procedures, including frequent mid-day disinfecting routines.
  • Check in and out procedures are being used to help contact trace.

Most importantly, we have each other’s backs – our team has sick time and the support of their co-workers if they are feeling under the weather.

We’re grateful for your support and understanding right now. To everyone who has reached out with words of encouragement and to all the smiling (and patient) faces we will soon see – thank you!

FAQs

  • What access will I have during my reservation?

Access includes roped climbing areas, bouldering areas, weight zones, and select cardio equipment. Thanks for your patience and assistance in not crowding tight spaces.

  • I am not ready to go back to the gym. What do I need to do to freeze my account?

We completely understand. Freeze fees are $8/member per month. Submit your change request here.
  • I'm ready to go back to the gym! How do I unfreeze my account?

When you visit the gym again, your account will be reactivated.

  • When will I receive my first charge? Will my dues be prorated?

You will be charged for membership on the day of your first visit for a prorated amount.

  • Why do I have to check out?

Checking out at or before the end of your session is extremely important as it helps us with contact tracing.

  • Are you taking cash payments?

No cash payments for now, at this time we are only accepting cards and digital payments like Apple Pay.

  • Can I bring my non-climbing child into the gym?

For the health and safety of our members and your children, we are asking you to please not bring your child to the gym with you unless they are climbing.  This includes toddlers who are observing and infants.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Can I Drop In?

Yes! Please drop-in anytime and stay as long as you want.

  • Is the cardio and free weight area open?

The weight area is open in all gyms and we have select cardio machine available. We just ask that you bring your own towel and that you wipe down the equipment with provided disinfectant before and after you work out. We are also conducting frequent cleanings of this equipment. In addition, there may be slight modifications to available equipment.

  • Are rentals available?

Rentals are available, but we strongly encourage you to bring your own gear.  Liquid chalk will also be available for rent or purchase.

  • Are lead ropes still available?

Yes, but supplies are limited. If possible, please bring your own lead rope.

  • Why can’t I use loose chalk?

Our understanding of how COVID-19 spreads is constantly evolving, but airborne transmission is believed to be the primary way the virus is spread.  By eliminating loose chalk, we are trying to limit airborne dust.  Liquid chalk contains alcohol and limits dust.  Liquid chalk will be available for rent or purchase.

  • Am I supposed to wear a mask while climbing or working out?

Yes, per our county guidelines, masks are required for all guests.

  • What exactly qualifies as a mask?

An acceptable mask is any face covering that covers your mouth and nose.  It can be made of cloth/fabric but should not have holes.Wearing a mask protects others by reducing respiratory droplets that are expelled, so a mask should be two layers and cover snugly around the sides of the face and under your chin to prevent slipping. Masks with valves should not be used as they allow droplets out of the mask, defeating the mask’s one important purpose, protecting those around you.  Check out CDC Mask Guidance for best practices.

  • Are memberships being turned on automatically?

No, at this stage, only those members who make a reservation will have their membership turned back on.  If you choose to stay frozen, there is a monthly $8 per member charge.  At a later date, we will move from an “opt-in” format to an “opt-out”.   Stay tuned!

  • Can I bring friends/family to observe?

Yes, friends and family are welcome to come and observe.

  • I purchased a Groupon before you closed, now what?

If you already redeemed the class portion of your Groupon, you can check-in as a pass holder. We are also still honoring the waived initiation fee when you choose to become a member. In addition, you can apply your Groupon “dollars” toward a membership immediately. Please contact membership@el-cap.com to complete this transaction.

If you have not redeemed your Groupon, we will extend the expiration date and will allow you to book a space in a class as soon as we start offering classes.  Please stay tuned.

  • I made a purchase during your online auction for the Chalk Bag Fund, when can I schedule my class/program?

If you won a private instruction or a course, we will reach out to each auction winner to schedule the class within three months of our reopening date. We have some limitations on providing instruction and classes with county and state COVID-19 guidelines and will work with you within these parameters.

If you won a custom climb or a session with a setter, the route setters will reach out to you directly to schedule your custom climb within three months of our reopening.

  • How long will these policies last?

Great question – these changes and guidelines are not permanent. As we continue to move toward our new normal, we will be guided by and comply with local county guidelines and we will keep members updated via the member newsletter, social media and our website.

Heya! We’ve moved to a new website.

Welcome!
